Over 45,000 Freightliner Cascadia tractors are being recalled by Daimler Trucks North America. The cause of the recalling is the issue concerning the ignition control which is not performing required bulb checks in different situations when it is needed.

The issue is noted from the documents from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to the Daimler, in case the ignition is turned from on to off to on very quickly (in the affected trucks), the ICU might not to the bulb check mentioned above. It is for the anti-lock brake system or electronic stability control, as required by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMCSA standards).

The absence of ABS or ESC bulb check is a major problem that can cause the driver to be unaware that the warning bulb is not working, per Daimler.

More than 45,667 models (the year 2017-2019) Cascadia trucks which were manufactured from May 3, 2016, to July 11, 2018, are being recalled. All the truck owners will be notified about the recalling starting from September 17. Dealers will reprogram the ICU’s to ensure that the bulb check works every time there is a turned-on ignition.

If you are an owner of an affected truck, you can contact DTNA customer service at (800) 547-0712 with recall number FL-780. (18V-491 is NHTSA’s recall number)
