What is Physical Damage Coverage?

Physical Damage insurance can be purchased in addition to a liability-only insurance policy.

A full coverage policy  includes both physical damage coverage and liability coverage.

• Collision insurance
• Comprehensive insurance

Both of the above are to cover any damage to your truck. It’s also important to recognize which of these types of coverage you have on your policy to better understand your coverage.

Each type only pays for specific causes of damage to your vehicle, and both can be purchased separately. Adding or removing either of these types of coverage could result in raising or lowering your insurance rates. Furthermore, the more coverage you have, the more your insurance costs.

What Does Physical Damage Cover?

Collision insurance covers any damage that occurs to your truck in result of an accident. The collision does not necessarily need to be with another vehicle, you could have a collision with another object, a building, and it will cover you even if your vehicle overturned.

Comprehensive insurance on the other hand covers anything that can happen to your vehicle other than collision. This includes

  • Fire
  • Theft
  • Hail or storm
  • Lightning
  • Earthquake
  • Flood
  • Vandalism
  • Burning or sinking
  • Hitting an animal
  • And other incidents

Do you need California Physical Damage Insurance?

In such cases, such as if you are leasing a vehicle, physical damage coverage may be a requirement. Unlike, if you own the vehicle and have paid it in full, then obtaining the coverage is optional.

How Much Deductible Do You Need?

For Physical Damage insurance, you must choose a deductible. The deductible is the amount that you agree to pay out of pocket at the time of a claim.

Choosing a higher deductible is an easy way to lower the price of your insurance. Furthermore, be sure you choose a deductible that you can afford to pay out of pocket at any time.
